Got an acceptance email this morning for a piece that I wasn’t even sure I wanted to finish writing.
I can’t give any spoilers right now, but the work was a short story that dealt with some horrific incidents and a main character who has spent a long time dealing with everything.
I didn’t want to finish the story. The material, and the research necessary to finish the tale, cast a dark cloud over me while I wrote. On two occasions, the material I needed to review made me physically ill.
I ended up putting the story aside until January of this year. I sent it as a possible portion of my thesis and got told that I’d be doing myself and my readers a disservice by not finishing it.
So now…the story is done and it was picked up today for an anthology.
It may have been hard to write that one…but it was worthwhile.
